Night Sky

The stars of the universe are in the sky day or night but it’s only when the sun sets and the sky darkens that we realize our sun is not the only one and we start to see the billions of stars in the universe.  Each piece of Night Sky is felted wool and manmade fibers.  Each measures 14”x18” and mounted on studio canvas.

Horizon

I was inspired for this piece when watching storm clouds one day gather in the distance.  It was especially beautiful when the rays of the setting sun peeked through the clouds.  This piece is felted wool and measures approx.  17”x 54” with web canvas backing.

Reds

This piece came together as a compilation of different red yarns selected from several yarn color palettes of shades of red to be incorporated into waves of red.  Each panel of red is highlighted with a deep brown wool felted cording which adds depth to each panel.  The piece is approx. 51” x 33”, is frameless and is mounted on lightweight fiberboard.

Whimsical

By combining several different yarns together, this “whimsical” design was born.   Adding the copper tubing frame and offsetting the inner frame from the outer frame gives it a 3-dimensional effect.   This piece mixes felted and non-felted yarns which adds to the texture and 3-D effect. It is approx.  43”x 27”.  The copper tubing has been finished with an anti-scratch, anti-corrosion finish.

Wanderings

This piece was created when I wanted to combine the stark contrast of gray and black with the softness of green and gold.  I see hills and valleys formed by the gray and black background.  Because the yarns felted slightly different, the result was an interesting shape with flared ends and ripples.  The green and gold are added “paths” over and around the hills and valleys.  It is approx. 30” x 16” and mounted on a 1”x2” wood lattice.

Life Changes

The beautiful northeast fall season and the changing of leaves was the inspiration for this piece.   It is approx. 24” in diameter and the leaves, branches and background are felted wool.  The leaves are threaded with fine wire to give each leaf form.  It is attached to a copper frame.
